King Ghartey IV was King of Winneba from 1872 to 1897 and the first president of the Fante Confederation, from 1868 to 1873.
He was a politician, author, entrepreneur, statesman and philanthropist, and a prominent figure in Gold Coast affairs in the later nineteenth century.
