Kofi Ansah

1951 – 2014

A forefather of Ghanaian fashion

Landmark is level 2 of 5 in the Ghana Hall of Fame: a first, or the pre-eminent figure of their generation in this country. See how the levels work.

Why they are here

He took kente and adinkra and made couture out of them, at a time when African cloth was not treated as serious fashion anywhere.

Kofi Ansah graduated from the Chelsea School of Art in 1977 and is considered one of the forefathers of Ghanaian fashion.

His Art Dress line turned kente and adinkra into couture, and he was founder and past president of the Federation of African Designers.
