Why they are here
His films gave Ghana a cinema of its own, and Heritage Africa took the grand prize at FESPACO, the continent's most important film festival.
Born at Agona Swedru in 1941, Ansah made Love Brewed in the African Pot in 1980 and Heritage Africa in 1989, the latter winning the Grand Prize at FESPACO that year.
He has spent much of his career arguing for African films to be funded and distributed within Africa rather than outside it.
