As leader of Osibisa he fronted one of the first African bands to reach a mass international audience, a decade before anyone spoke of world music.
Born Francis Osei in December 1935, he led the Afro-pop band Osibisa, founded in London in 1969 by four African and three Caribbean musicians.
Osibisa's fusion of highlife, rock and Caribbean rhythms found a global audience in the early 1970s. He died in January 2025.
